Student Services Overview

All services and referrals are coordinated through your neighbourhood school




  

Education Support Teachers

The role of the Education Support Teacher (EST) at each school is to consult and collaborate with school staff regarding students with exceptional learning needs.  They may administer individual achievement tests to provide information for programming, provide support in individual, small group or whole class settings, coordinate the development of individual education plans, and coordinate referrals to division personnel or outside agencies.




 

Speech-Language Pathologists

The Speech-Language Pathologist’s role is to provide direct and indirect support to allow students to be successful in the classroom setting. Speech-Language Pathologists are trained professionals in the study of human communication, its development and disorders.~ They are specialists in assessing and treating speech, language, voice, fluency, and other related communication disorders.  Through identification and treatment of the above areas that are impacting the child’s performance at school, the Speech-Language Pathologist will assist the student to function with the greatest level of independence possible.




 

Occupational Therapist

The Occupational Therapist’s role is to provide direct and indirect support to allow students to be successful in the classroom setting. Through identification of fine motor, sensory and self care areas that are impacting the child’s performance at school, the Occupational Therapist will assist the student to function with the greatest level of independence possible.




 

Home School Liaison Worker

The role of the Home School Liaison Worker is to build a positive partnership between school and home in order to support children’s development and learning and to link families to more specialized help and support when necessary.




 
Counsellors

The School Counsellor’s role is to provide direct counseling services for students with social, emotional, or behavioural concerns as well as consultative support for school staff.   They provide counseling in individual, group and whole class settings, as well as acting as liaison for outside agencies.

The Attendance Counsellor’s role is to support the school in determining the cause of irregular attendance, provide support for the family in ways to improve school attendance, as well as acting as liaison with the school around the area of attendance.

Student Health Initiative Program (SHIP) is a service provided in partnership with Education, Health and Child and Family Services.  It provides support to families whose children or youth are experiencing difficulties at home and at school.




 

Educational Psychologist Services

Educational Psychologist Services are contracted for the purpose of assessing the learning needs of a student and providing programming support and recommendations for the school-based team and family.




 

English as an Additional Language Lead Teachers

The EAL Lead Teacher’s role is to provide support for assessment, programming and instructional strategies for English language learners.  They will also support school staffs in promoting multiculturalism and awareness and understanding of learning English as an additional language.




 

Pre-Kindergarten Services

Second Steps Pre-Kindergarten Program is housed at Jack Kemp Community School and is open to 3 and 4 year old students who are residents of the Lloydminster Public School Division attendance area and meet entrance criteria.  The program focuses on child-centered developmentally appropriate programming of whole child through an integrated balanced focus on social-emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual development

Preschool age children with intensive needs are supported through funding provided by Saskatchewan or Alberta Ministry of Education depending on province of residency of the child.  Programming and services are coordinated through Lloydminster Public School Division and local health and children’s services agencies.
