A new year and a new decade is upon us! I hope everyone had a great holiday break and took the opportunity to spend some quality time with your loved ones and friends.
As we enter a new year, I want to take this time to celebrate what a great year 2019 was for LPSD! We experienced great success this past year with all-time highs in academic results and graduation rates. In addition to these amazing academic results the LCHS drama department hosted an amazing performance of Greece at the Vic Juba Theater, the LCHS Barons Football team prevailed as Wheatland Football League champions and Bishop Lloyd, College Park and E.S. Laird athletic teams each took turns with dominant performances on the court and field. Lloydminster Public is home to some amazing students who never cease to impress with their various achievements! 2019 was a year to be celebrated!
In addition to the amazing success stories mentioned above, I would be remiss if I didn’t highlight the work done by our student and staff leaders in supporting our Indigenous students. Recently, LPSD launched the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Resource Program, which brings elders and knowledge keepers into all ten schools to share their culture and teachings. LPSD is a different place as a result of this work and I have been humbled by the leadership and passion that has been shown to ensure all students feel safe, and experience a warm sense of belonging within our schools.
The above items are only examples of the many student and staff achievements within LPSD. The list of achievements is truly endless, all of which remind me of how fortunate I am to call LPSD home. LPSD plays a vital role in our community and has a daily impact on the children and families whom we serve, of this I am most proud!
This past year, LPSD benefited a great deal from the generous support of our community partners. Whether it was a monetary donation towards school breakfast programs, a gift of books for students or a contribution to LPSD programming, we are always taken aback by the generosity of our Lloydminster community. To our many community partners and supporters, we want to say thank you for your generosity and we look forward to continuing our relationship in 2020.
I am excited to see what 2020 will bring. It is not lost on me that we are rarely afforded the opportunity to not only bring in a new year but a new decade! My hope for all of us is that the next ten years will provide us with opportunities to learn, grow, and add value to our friends, family, and colleagues. I am optimistic and hopeful for what the future has to bring, and I am confident in saying that LPSD will continue to ensure personal excellence for all students!
Happy New Year!
