I hope everyone had a great summer. From what I’ve heard from staff is summers were spent with friends, summer travel and lots of laughter. It’s been a whirlwind week, with teachers coming back last week (school administration came back the week before) and wellness and professional development sessions taking place on Friday and today.
With Sept. 1 right around the corner, our schools will soon be filled with our students and we can officially jump into the 2016-17 school year.
But before that happens, we had our Opening Day Ceremony to look forward to this morning, where we heard from Motivational Speaker and Author Darci Lang. Darci will also be hosting a session on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the Vic Juba Community Theatre beginning at 7 p.m. Please come and join us for this awesome opportunity to hear about the power of focusing on the positive aspects of our life.
Part of my summer vacation was spent in transit, where I had the opportunity to read Darci’s book entitled “Focus on the 90%”. A part that resonated with me was around saying "thank you" and how that action should be a priority.
As I reflected on the experiences of a student in LPSD, I was humbled by all the contributions that go into making each and every day a success for our students. From Bus Drivers to Administrators and everybody in between it truly does take a team to Ensure Personal Excellence for all that call LPSD home. In order to offer my thanks to all who deserve it, I’d have to forego this blog in favour of a series of novels. Instead, I will just stress that I hope all staff know that all of your efforts do not go unnoticed.
Last year, I committed to writing a blog as a means of communication with staff and I will be continuing with that this year. Please stay tuned, as I will be venturing to speak more often about various topics, such as our priorities, what’s happening at the schools and division office, cheering for the division office team during wellness challenges (yes, I am foreshadowing)…
But most of all, I’m hoping this blog will continue to open up communication between myself and you, so feel free to comment on the post!
Have a Great Year Everyone!
